// The Numbers, Published

The lowest custom minimum we offer.

Most suppliers’ custom printing starts in the thousands and arrives months later. Short run is our answer for everyone below that line: 500 units, printed here in the UK, usually back in about a week.

In-house printer branding kraft stock coffee bags in the UK

// How Short Run Printing Works

Printed here, on bags we already hold

Every other method on our ladder prints at the factory, at source, before the bag crosses the world. Short run flips that: the bags are already in our UK warehouse, and the printing happens in-house — which is why the minimum is 500 and the turnaround is measured in days, not months.

01

Digital print, straight onto finished bags

Our in-house printer prints your artwork in full colour directly onto pre-made kraft bags — natural kraft or white kraft — from our stock range. No plates, no drums, no tooling of any kind.

02

Front and back panels only

Because the bags are already formed, the printer reaches the front and back panels but not the gussets, and a plain margin remains around the print area. Designs that embrace the panel format look sharpest.

03

Kraft behaves like kraft

Kraft paper absorbs ink, so printed colours can come out slightly different from what you see on screen, and full-colour backgrounds aren’t possible. Logos, type and simple graphics print best — and the kraft texture showing through is part of the look.

04

No freight in the story

The bags never leave the country between printing and dispatch — there’s no sea or air freight stage at all. That’s what makes short run the fastest route to a branded bag on our ladder.

// Strengths & Trade-Offs

An honest fit-check

Short run has real limitations — and we’d rather state them plainly than have you find out on delivery. For the right jobs, nothing else comes close.

Choose short run printing when…
You need branded bags from just 500 units
Speed matters — a seasonal drop, an event, a launch date that won’t move
You’re testing a design or a new product before committing to a factory run
You need a fast top-up while a bigger custom order is in production
Your branding suits kraft — logos, type and simple graphics on a natural face
Consider another method when…

You want full-coverage artwork, printed gussets, exact colour matching or non-kraft materials.

Digital printing — from 2,000 units, edge-to-edge full colour on most materials →

You want a premium metallic mark on a stock bag, from 1,000 units.

Hot foil stamping — one foil colour, ~3 weeks →

You’re at 10,000+ units and want the lowest unit cost on a fully bespoke bag.

Rotogravure — up to 10 colours, cheapest per bag at scale →

// Cost Dynamics

Small-batch economics, done honestly

A proven bag plus a print

You’re paying for a stock kraft bag we already hold plus the in-house printing — not for a factory to set up a production line. That’s what makes 500 units viable where factory methods need thousands.

No tooling, no freight

There are no plates, drums or dies to pay for, and no overseas shipping stage in the price. What we quote is the job — bags, print, done.

Order what you need, when you need it

Short run’s job isn’t to be the cheapest per bag — factory volume always wins that. Its job is to make 500 branded bags make sense: no over-ordering, no capital tied up in stock, no unsold bags when the season ends. When your volumes grow, digital printing from 2,000 units is the natural next step.

// Artwork & Proofing

Checked in-house before anything prints

01

Artwork on our cutter guides

We supply the cutter guide for your chosen kraft stock bag; your designer sets the artwork on the front and back panels, inside the printable area.

02

In-house designer check

Our in-house designer checks the file and works with your designer daily on adjustments — and flags anything kraft will punish, like full-colour backgrounds or screen-bright colours. We don’t design from scratch.

03

Free digital proof

A digital proof is included with every order — nothing prints until you approve it.

04

Printed proof on demand

Printed proofs are available on demand at an extra cost — worth it if you want to see exactly how your colours sit on kraft before the run.

// Delivery

No container. No customs. No waiting.

Our three factory methods produce beautifully — and then the order crosses the world by sea or air. Short run skips that stage entirely: the bags are printed in-house in the UK and dispatched from our warehouse once your job is done. Typical turnaround is around a week, confirmed with your quote.

That also makes short run the ideal bridge order: run 500 kraft bags now, and let a digital or rotogravure order sail in behind it.

// FAQ

Short run printing, answered

Short run printing starts at 500 units — the lowest custom minimum we offer. If you need fewer bags than that, our stock bags are available from a single carton.

Typically around a week’s turnaround, confirmed with your quote. The bags are printed in-house in the UK on stock we already hold, so there’s no factory production run and no overseas shipping stage.

Kraft paper bags from our stock range only — natural kraft and white kraft. Other materials, including our recyclable range, need factory printing: digital printing covers them from 2,000 units.

We print on the front and back panels only — gussets stay unprinted, with a plain margin around the print area. Kraft paper absorbs ink, so full-colour backgrounds aren’t possible and printed colours can differ slightly from what you see on screen. Logos, type and simple graphics print best. If your artwork needs edge-to-edge coverage or exact colour matching, we’ll point you to digital printing instead.

Yes — the print itself is full colour on the front and back panels. The practical limits come from the kraft material rather than the printer: no full-coverage backgrounds, and colours sit more muted on kraft than on screen.

When your volumes reach 2,000 units, when you want printed gussets and edge-to-edge artwork, or when you need materials beyond kraft — digital printing picks up exactly where short run stops. From 10,000 units, rotogravure gives the lowest unit cost. Many customers run both: short run for speed, a factory method for scale.

We don’t design from scratch — you supply artwork on our cutter guides, and our in-house designer checks it and works with your designer on adjustments. A digital proof is included with every order; printed proofs are available on demand at an extra cost.
